Hello, my name is Dennis Stevens. I was introduced to the Inductive Bible Study (IBS) methodology about 25 years ago with the Navigators through the 2:7 Series. I have been leading small group Bible studies using the IBS methodology since then.
What I like about the IBS is that you can learn it quickly. No particular skills or specialized tools are required. All you need is a Bible, a notebook, and a pencil. When learned IBS, we used colored pencils to mark the text and wrote everything down in a notebook. Now I do everything electronically and can highlight, comment, etc. the text using my word processor. But as simple as it is to get started, the depth to which you can use the methodology is virtually unlimited. You can use concordances, Bible dictionaries, Bible Introductions, commentaries. With the electronic tools like Logos, or Accordance, which I use, the electronic tools available are practically limitless. Then of course, there are all sorts of online tools. The tools available to the average person are staggering, but the IBS process has remained the same.
